Hastings Conquerors American Football Club are actively seeking trainee youth coaches to fulfil a number of roles within their youth development program.
The Conquerors currently have two age groups looking for assistance. The clubs 14-18 Junior team are looking for volunteer coaches, and their 8-14 Cadets team are also in need of coaches.
These roles are solely on a voluntary basis but may appeal to anyone looking to get into the sport or an experienced coach looking to try a new sport. Hastings Conquerors will pay for a BAFA Level 1 Coaching Certificate (a one day course run every 6 months or so in Brighton) for any coach who is actively participating in a coaching role at the club.
Club Chairman and Founder Chris Chillingworth explained “We have been running our Junior and Cadets teams for a while now, however they are being done so with a coaching staff that are spread very thin. We are therefore actively looking for anyone interested in learning more about the sport. Ideally you’ll be a coach of other sports, but it’s not a pre-requisite. The most important factor is the willing to learn and the ability to teach kids in a professional manner that fits in line with our strict child protection policy and our level of safety awareness. This can eventually lead to head coach roles or roles within our senior coaching staff. We’re looking for good eggs. People with a growth mindset who want to help others learn. We can teach you all the technicals.”
Chillingworth continued “We need a number of people to join the club and train to become coaches. Each youth team ideally needs a minimum of 2 coaches in each team. If we don’t find the coaches we cannot run the teams so it’s rather crucial that we can find people who are able and willing to give up the time to help us deliver this fantastic sport“.
Successful applicants will be expected to undergo an enhanced DBS clearance and will be expected to attain a BAFA Level 1 Coaching Certificate at the nearest available opportunity.
Training sessions are often based on pitch availability and coach availability, however traditionally a lot of American Football is played and trained on Sundays. It is a summer sport which typically runs from April to September, however the club trains most of the year round.
